Animal Texture Character Design

For this blog post, I investigated the feathery texture of a Puffin.

The underside of the Puffin's feathers consisted of at least three types of textured feathers, which I didn't notice until I began sketching. There seemed to be a mix of small, medium, and large feathers, each with different shades and texture qualities.

I began with the feathers surrounding a head. I then sketched in a body for character that was 2.5 head sizes tall (3.5 including the head feathers), with feathers surrounding the body areas as well.
